A pet bowl made for a friend’s pet rabbit. Made with red stoneware and decorated with white slip and Amaco underglazes.
I have recently started following the work of the artist, Heather Day, who creates beautiful, abstract, mixed media paintings that evoke the magic of her surroundings. In creating this piece I was inspired by her style – I attempt to illustrate “the essence of a rabbit”.
While I enjoyed the process of making the bowl I am only okay with how it turned out. My woe lies in a lack of practice in abstract portraiture and limited knowledge of colour theory; I feel guilty that something so well received (by like, 5 people) happened by accident. In the meantime I suppose I can prescribe myself more study so that I can get better at the fine art component of pottery but is this what I want? Or is it more important to focus more on the technical proficiency of building the forms and a well made piece?
